Dr. Charles G. Abraham – Veterinarian
Dr. Charles Abraham received his Bachelor of Science from Iowa State University in 1980, majoring in Biology. He also received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State in 1986, where he graduated with honors and distinction. He has over 22 years experience in private equine practice. Charles Abraham founded Abraham’s Equine Clinic in 1991. Dr. Abraham’s special interest is equine reproduction. This area of expertise is where much of his post doctoral education has been spent.
Dr. Abraham is a professor at Kirkwood Community College teaching in the Equine Science program; he is also on the advisory board. Dr. Abraham is also a member of the American Associate of Equine Practitioners and the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Kathryn Sharbrough – Veterinarian
Dr. Sharbrough grew up in Charleston, South Carolina, where she enjoyed spending her time riding her horse and boating. She attended Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine in Alabama, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 2012. Dr. Sharbrough began a rotating Equine Medicine & Surgery Internship at Mississippi State University in July 2012. Continuing her training through Mississippi State University, she went on to complete an American Board of Veterinary Practitioners Residency in Equine Practice (2013-2014) and a Comparative Theriogenology (Reproduction) Residency (2014-2016).
While Dr. Sharbrough enjoys all aspects of equine medicine and surgery, her interests include therapeutic management for the problem mare, placentitis, embryo transfer, neonatology, ophthalmology, dentistry and internal medicine.
Dr. James McNutt – Veterinarian
Jim McNutt DVM, Year of graduation, 1970, Iowa State University, 1070-71, Equine intern and ambulatory staff, Perdue University College of Veterinary Medicine, Started West Branch Animal Clinic, July 1971, a full service mixed animal practice and hospital, practiced there till October 1998, sold to partner. Started McNutt Equine October 1998, an ambulatory equine practice affiliated with AEC. Member of the IVMA, AVMA, and AAEP, Served as Equine Committee Chairman of the IVMA 1993-2003, Member of the executive board of Miracles N Motion Therapeutic riding center 2011-2013. Member of the Moingona Hunt 1990-2011, currently member of the North Hills Hunt. Vice president and Park owner of Catalpa Corner Charity Horse Trials.
Teresa Dolezal – Medicine / Hospital
Teresa Dolezal was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, Ia. She graduated from Kirkwood Community College with an Associates Degree in Animal Science. In August of 2001, she was offered and accepted a position working for Abraham’s Equine Clinic as a technician. Teresa enjoys spending time with her son, Seth, who keeps her on her toes most of the time. She also enjoys the discipline of reining. She has two quarter horse geldings, J.R. and Vinnie.
Emilie Taylor – Breeding Manager
Emilie Taylor grew up in the small town of Lamoni located in southern Iowa. She graduated from Kirkwood Community College and received an AAS degree in Horse Science and Ag Business. She began working at Abraham’s Equine Clinic through a breeding internship in March of 2010. Emilie lives on an acreage near Mt. Vernon with her husband and one daughter. She enjoys going to fun shows and trail riding her Arabian gelding.
Donna Abraham – Administrative
Donna Abraham is our Practice Manager, she was born and raised in a suburb of Chicago. She graduated from Upper Iowa University with a Psychology and Sociology degree. After graduation, she moved to Cedar Rapids where she has resided ever since. She has been involved with the Administrative area at the Clinic since it was started in 1991 although more time is now dedicated since the retirement from her other job in 2003. Donna and Charles have one son, Chip, who is a student at the University of Iowa.
Katy Merritt – Barn Manager
Katy grew up in Mount Vernon Iowa. She graduated Kirkwood Community College with her associates degree in horse science. Katy enjoys starting horses in her free time doing dressage and jumping.
